boxed up from Making A Lather

I have decided to retire these projects to the ufo closet. They deserve a vacation, and, to meet up with their old friends. Both of the quilts were last year's rainbow scrap challenge. I sewed them into useable blocks, to the point that decisions are needed for assembly. Now, they will have to wait until their turn as part of my 5 quilt focus. It could be years or decades LOL

Couldn't help taking pictures of all the petty valentine flowers at the grocery store. and it smelled great.

hunters star from Making A Lather

Every morning, I make at least one hunters star block. I have also sewn the individual blocks into twosies. I am trying to make them random, but, I find myself picking through them for just the right way to use them. haha -I cut and made the single blocks last year as part of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy.

The daily practice has made progress. I have accumulated  almost 30 big blocks. Better than, if I had sent them to the ufo closet. I don't think all my points are perfect, but, the overall look is really ...

light blue finish from Making A Lather

I finished with the light blues. I made some star and crown blocks.

And, I spent some time sewing blocks into twosomes for the hunter's star. Otherwise, I worked on the 5 UFO quilts I have going, to move them along, while I waited for the new color for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I guess the color will be lime and light green. IT might be time to cut that color for an older UFo called swingin checkerboard  that needs green for the sashing.

I can't believe it October already. It seems  like yesterday I ...

hunters star from Making A Lather

I used all the blue colors for hunter's star earlier this year for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. SO, I am using this month of light blue to start sewing blocks together for my hunter's star. I used an accuquilt die to cut the pieces, and, I sewed the half blocks together during the month according to color of the month. If I had made this before, I would have realized that I needed to press the pieces differently to get a good nesting of the seams.  I am taking the light piece by color and ...

hunter star from Making A Lather

I started hunter's star this year as a rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. Each month, I cut the pieces in the color of the month. When I started, it was new to me, so, I was just going to cut this year, and sew next year, according to the colors as they are announced. But, I couldn't stop after cutting. I have pieced all the months to this point this year. They are just so fun.

Since, I want them all scrappy, it was a few months before I had a variety of colors, to ( I just ...

scrappy hunters star from Making A Lather

I have the blue hunter's star pieces made. for the month of June and the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. It was time to cut more background.

There was enough block pieces to play a little with  the design and see if my idea for a scrappy colors was going to work. And, I was happy with the results. The plan was to cut and sew pieces this year, and, assemble the quilt next year. We will see when winter comes round again.

This is my poor ironing board after a visit from my Granddaughters who wanted a ...

hunter's star spring from Making A Lather

Earlier, I blogged about starting these this month here, I have spent a little time finishing the green  hunter's star blocks. I try to do 20 each month in the color of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I had to recut some background ( white) to finish the dark point pieces.

And the white point pieces.

I experimented with a few blocks. I am still missing some color groups to really start piecing the big blocks. I need blues, oranges, and maybe purples.

I really look forward to the poppies blooming each year. And, they ...

hunters star in green from Making A Lather

Next, for my rainbow scrap challenge projects, is my Hunter's star blocks. This month the color is sage green and forest green. My other blocks are brighter than that, so, I found scraps that were as close as I thought I could go. I use the accuquilt dies to cut the pieces. All the pieces are on one die. I can put a large enough piece on the die in the print and the background and have all the pieces cut that I need for a set of blocks.

I had never tried this classic block because it looked ...

hunters star and waffles from Making A Lather

This is the last week in April for the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I finished cutting and sewing for my Hunter's star

Then, I felt that I had enough of a variety to try putting 2 blocks together and see how it looks. I think I am going to like it a lot.

I made s few waffle stamp blocks in pink to finish the month. I thought I had made all the blocks I would need last year, but, somehow I was very short when I tried to put them together. I think I misplaced some ...

My 5 quilts progress report. My last report March 21

1. Rainbow scrap challenge - pink- I cut and sewed all the yellow hunter's star blocks for March.

and I started with pink for April with candy blocks

2. I used a random number generator and I opened the box for an older ufo called 'every which way' by gigis thimble that I started in 2016. It looks like the top is made and just needs borders. There is enough fabric left to make them. I really don't remember where or how I started this one. But, it is ...

progress from Making A Lather

I have 5 quilts I am actively progressing on, but, every now and then, I slip in a few blocks for fun. I have been concentrating on my hunter's star blocks as leader/ enders. Each block takes 3 passes.

So, I have neglected my official leader / ender project -fish school/go fish. I have missed them. I did just a few so that they would not feel too abandoned.
